Istrian white truffle hunting excursion

The Istrian white truffle is one of the most highly-prized in the world today. So, if you are looking for the truffles just come on and visit Istria.

Truffles hunting program:

1.In the morning houres a small group, up to 4 people escorted by a experianced truffle hunter and a trained dog, heads up to woods to hunt truffles in their natural habitat. The hunt last for about three houres and the ones who decide to go on this hunt get to keep collected truffles.

The truffle was discovered by ancient Romans, well known gourmets, eighteen centuries ago.Since then it remained a gastronomic delicacy, also called the diamond of the kitchen and praised to have aphrodisiacal powers. While the aphrodisiacal characteristics of truffles have not been established, it is still held in high esteem in traditional French, northern Italian and Istrian cooking, and in international haute cuisine. Since the White truffle or Alba Truffle does not dispose of a plant suspended above the ground, female pigs have been used historically in Europe to help find truffles since the truffle produces a scent that mimics a male pig sex hormone. However, more recently, dogs have become preferred for truffle hunting since they can be trained to just find the truffles whereas sows eat the truffles as soon as they find them.
